Indeed, that is the way I usually learn - thanks for the search tip, that's a little too simple a search for someone used to other OS's!. > Well .bin is binhexed and expander should unencode those. > I thought Apple used disk images a lot .smi for this and you need Disk Copy > to mount them as virtual floppies - and you can drag the contents of each > virtual floppy onto a real one. > I have a few copies of the 7.1 floppy OS install if you are interested or > 7.6/8 on a CD ...and that's all Brian Steere wrote I'm afraid Aha, things are beginning to fall into place now, thanks. I have already got the images for 7.5.3 and the 7.5.5 update. I've turned these into files called .smi and a batch of .part files which talk about being a CD install. I'll see if I can get Disk Copy sorted and see where I get to. I've already got hold of a CD for the Performa 5300 and 6300 series - not keen on playing with that yet as the 6320 I have is working OK and I'm using it as a base for experimenting with the others. They are networked (well most are). It's a shame that the CD I have has Claris Works 3 when I seem to have Apple Works 5 on the machine already (I'm assuming it's just a rebadge!), but there you go. I would be interested in the 7.6 and 8 CD's, possibly the 7.1 on floppy (contact me off line with details - thanks). I've got an external SCSI CD that I may look to hook up to the other machines. I've also got an internal SCSI CD for the 630, but that is of no use without the custom adapter that's needed for it! :-( Funny, I'm getting to quite like Macs already, although I'm more of Linux person. The first time I saw one and saw that you had to drag the floppy icon over the trash to eject the diskette it worried me (that says erase or format to me!). If I'm not careful I'll be wanting something to run MacOS X soon - that looks really interesting! -- Paul Tansom: - contact [EMAIL PROTECTED] for more information Internet and Intranet Solutions -- http://www.aptanet.com/ -- Mac UK is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and... 123Inkjets.com <http://lowendmac.com/ad/123inkjets.html> Support Low End Mac <http://lowendmac.com/lists/support.html> Mac UK list info: <http://lowendmac.com/lists/mac-uk.html> Send list messages to: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To unsubscribe, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> For digest mode, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subscription questions: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Archive: <http://www.mail-archive.com/mac-uk%40mail.maclaunch.com/> Using a Macintosh?
