If you want my advice save up a bit and buy a 17" iMac G4. The screen
is crisp and the screen area is enormous (about the same as an 18"
widescreen TV) and it;s so quite I couldn't even hear it running while
I was talking to the sales guy in John Lewis, it wasn't until he walked
away I even noticed the fan! Add to that the stunning good looks and
fantastic design and it says 'buy me now' all over it.

Apparently, according to MacFormat and a few other sources at least,
the rear fan on the eMac is a bit on the loud side and throws the noise
of the hard disk, which is mounted right on top of the heat-sink the
fan draws off, out of the back of the machine. It looks OK but the
refresh rates that Apple state for the screen at higher resolutions are
abysmal. 1280x960@65Hz is gonna make you head hurt very quickly, and
1152x870@72Hz isn't a whole lot better.

The 17" iMac's LCD panel does not suffer from 'flicker' as a CRT does
so even though it is only technivally 70Hz you'll never notice.
