As I understand it OSX 10.2 doesn't support USB2 either and without third party drivers your USB2 ports will run at USB1 speeds.
I beg to differ Roger... sort of...
my PCI firewire/usb2 card works just fine in Jaguar. Was there a driver package to install? You might well ask that question, but... well, to tell you the truth (it was a few months ago), I don't remember... it was that painless. You pretty much stick it in, plug in the periferals and have at it...
