The newer ATA are backward compatible and just run at the older spec. For information I used - and recommend: http://www.xlr8yourmac.com They have a lot of user reports etc on their drive database. Very useful with links to iMac take apart et too. I have done this to a few friends iMacs and a 5500 using seagate barracuda drives from version IV to V to .7 (current model). I bought from Dabs.com - have bought a few things from them never any problems as yet. As you'll see on the site they are a popular choice. The ata thing does mean that you wont get more than about 128gb no matter what you put in as that is a limit of ata33 and 66 if I recall.
I dont think the cache is that important for a Mac but I could be wrong. Hope this helps Regards Brian > Hi, > I am about to do a mass drive update for a couple of imacs (g3/400DV and > g3/350) and our yikes (g4/400). > > I will be adding 7200rpm drives with 8mb disk cache.
