You can indeed run ATA100 drives on a 33 bus but there will be almost no speed increase - the 8mb cache may help but not much. I put a similar 7200rpm ATA100 drive in my slot-loader 350 iMac and there was almost no speed increase at all. I timed booting up, starting various programs and various file searches - only some of the searches where slightly faster and that was probably because some info was still cached.
I would spend the money on RAM. The 512MB in my 350 iMac turned it into an excellent OSX machine - it has yet to crash. It is perfectly responsive even compared to the newest offerings as long as you keep to a few apps at once. ---- Message sent via Totalise Webmail - http://www.totalise.co.uk/ -- Mac UK is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and... 123Inkjets.com <http://lowendmac.com/ad/123inkjets.html> Support Low End Mac <http://lowendmac.com/lists/support.html> Mac UK list info: <http://lowendmac.com/lists/mac-uk.shtml> --> AOL users, remove "mailto:" Send list messages to: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To unsubscribe, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> For digest mode, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subscription questions: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Archive: <http://www.mail-archive.com/mac-uk%40mail.maclaunch.com/> Using a Mac?
