I want get a printer that can work with my new G4 and most of my routine
printing is text. I already have an Epson EX which I can use to print colour
from my old Mac (Which will stay in the family).

So I wondered about getting a cheap laser printer. Unfortunately cheap is
necessary as I have overspent in getting my new Mac at all.
I see Samsung offer very low cost OS X compatible laser printers. At present
I lean towards a Samsung ML1710 for under 100 inc vat. but before I leap I
wanted to find out a bit more:

I googled around but everything is clogged with price comparison sites and
its difficult to just learn! If you can just point me to an URL with
information releated to all this please do.

1/. Printer Sharing:
I am on a family network with Macs using 8.6 or 9.1. Would any of the
printer sharing facility in Mac OSX make a USB connected printer available
to the network? Or would I have to get an ethernet connectable printer to
allow this? (And can anyone recommend a budget level model - including 2nd
hand via ebay etc)

2/. Built in Ram etc
Does it matter much as to the spec of memory and processor that is
built into the printer? I have only used inkjets up to now. I see some
printers can be upgraded - (though at a cost!) and others are fixes - (like
the Samsung). I am not a heavy user so I guess not but wonder what happens
if I try to print a large file - does it just take longer

3/. Language and fonts etc
I have always used Truetype fonts and havent had to deal with EPS files
or prepress procedures etc. Is there anything incompatible or troublesome
that I may encounter with any of the various languages that these printers
use.

4/. Real world costs
Compared to using compatible inkjet cartridges are lasers in fact a lot
cheaper - and can one safely use compatible (cheap) toner cartridges too?

Help or recommendations on any of these points is very welcome!
