Having never used OSX this is a guess, but have you set a checkbox somewhere
called 'dial on demand' or 'connect automatically when needed'? This
happened to me on a Windows home network because my laptop was searching for
a domain controller server with a public IP address (yes naughty I know),
and when I logged on it sent my server into a frenzy of dial attempts when
ever the laptop wanted to do something with the domain.

Just a thought,

Matt
