I hope someone can help me with these:
1) My iMac 233Mhz has just died. Power just went as though the plug was pulled, no startup or any sign of life. Lead and power are fine but nothing getting through. Any ideas on what this might be and does anyone know of a good reliable Apple repairer in NW London or thereabouts? Kind of sounds like a power supply issue but not really sure.
Do you have an external monitor you can plug in to test with? A common fault with these iMacs is the power board overheats and burns out eventually, but it's only the power to the monitor which is failing, even though the rest of the machine won't boot either. If this is the fault, then you will find the machine boots just fine with an external monitor attached. I've seen this happen with two imacs, and a google search suggests it's a common fault with this model. The board can be replaced, there are guides on the web on how to do it. A friend of mine did it - it cost him about 50-70 for the board though, which he imported from the USA.
