I suppose it isn't really, depending on your needs. If you have gotten along this far without it then my hat is off to you. (what branch are you in so that I know what to change to in the future :-) I personally find that I am forced to live a Win world at work (not for lack of trying I can assure you), and even the Uni's that I deal with are using MS instead of cheaper and better Linux...very different from my experience in Germany or Canada. So I guess that I am so used to using this suite of products and familiar with the setups and where menus are, etc...that I find it hard to use other programs like Mail...I guess like those that use Photoshop feel much more at ease with other Adobe products than competitor products... Lastly, I guess that as a PowerBook user AppleWorks doesn't come bundled, and if I have to pay then... > OpenOffice is supposed to be pretty good at handling Word files, but > requires the X11 window system at present. Anyone here using it? Yes, not recommended for professional use yet. It does get better and better but still is a long way from error free importing. Neither Word or PowerPoint have proven 100 percent successful when I have experimented in the past (last time I looked it was 1.03). The formatting and layout go right out in some cases. I believe the problem is lack of developer support for the project so it moves slooooowly. For general use and a quick letter it is fine but we already have other programs for that. The spreadsheet may be alright (haven't tried it extensively myself). I do hope that the OOo development will gain support on the Mac side soon to bring it up...look at Gimp (now in version 2.0 and a great alternative for normal users to Adobe...
