I suppose it isn't really, depending on your needs. If you have gotten along
this far without it then my hat is off to you. (what branch are you in so
that I know what to change to in the future :-)

I personally find that I am forced to live a Win world at work (not for lack
of trying I can assure you), and even the Uni's that I deal with are using
MS instead of cheaper and better Linux...very different from my experience
in Germany or Canada. So I guess that I am so used to using this suite of
products and familiar with the setups and where menus are, etc...that I find
it hard to use other programs like Mail...I guess like those that use
Photoshop feel much more at ease with other Adobe products than competitor
products...

Lastly, I guess that as a PowerBook user AppleWorks doesn't come bundled,
and if I have to pay then...

Yes, not recommended for professional use yet. It does get better and better
but still is a long way from error free importing. Neither Word or
PowerPoint have proven 100 percent successful when I have experimented in
the past (last time I looked it was 1.03). The formatting and layout go
right out in some cases. I believe the problem is lack of developer support
for the project so it moves slooooowly. For general use and a quick letter
it is fine but we already have other programs for that. The spreadsheet may
be alright (haven't tried it extensively myself).

I do hope that the OOo development will gain support on the Mac side soon to
bring it up...look at Gimp (now in version 2.0 and a great alternative for
normal users to Adobe...

Cheers,

Richard
