You don't say which Airport Base Station you have but, assuming it has two Ethernet ports you should probably:


1. Connect the modem to the WAN port on the ABS with an Ethernet cable

2. Connect the Powerbook to the LAN port on the ABS with an Ethernet cable

3. Run AirPort Setup Assistant for the ABS

4. Disconnect the Powerbook then run AirPort Setup Assistant to join a network

You may need to reset the ABS to its defaults first.
