Actually, the Mezzanine is still there in Rev C and D machines, it's just the connector isn't. Same with the IR/Serial port in later tray loaders and the SWIM floppy port in all models. The iMac is a curious mix of Old World and New World machines... Apple rarely made any cards for NuBus, PDS and SE/30 PDS either...
