Also consider that a lot of software companies were initially born and
funded solely by the existence of the Mac platform, I personally hope
with the addition of Core Video and Core Graphics in Tiger we see a
major shift by these companies back to the Mac as the flagship machine
for their software since they will be able to integrate features that
just won't exist in the Windows world.

Anyone who is in a forward looking business like Apple runs on R&D.
More money = better and widerspread R&D = better products that are, as
an upshot better value.
O' course there are downsides like the threat of virus authors
actually twigging on that Apple is a platform worthy of attention
(*if* they can get around the UNIX security), diluted tech support,
loss of exclusivity etc., but they balance with the advantages.
