So the British have a soft spot for their heritage in language, currency, measurements and Royal family.
Kinda silly as the modern English language is a bastard child of German and French with a bit of proper native thrown in, Celtic!
Also, as Susan already pointed out, the present British English is a whole different kettle of fish compared to yesterdays English. It is one of the fastest CHANGING languages in the world that borrows words from all over the world.
Just some info I had hanging in my head from a study I did into the origin of Dutch as it started roughly around the same time as English. Both starting from west Germanic language.
Anyways, I guess I have stepped on enough toes for today ;)
