Most of the G4 units available are fast enough for the majority of the *nix users out there (as evidenced by the amount of Linux fans using iBooks) as long as you have more than 512 MB RAM. If you start running Photoshop and iTunes (ripping tracks with visual effects running) and then wish to compile some code all at the same time, you may find that the Mini will have a harder time but so would all of the other machines out there except the newer G5 models (and if you can afford one of those...the answer is obvious). The only reason to choose another model would be the need to have the portability (including display)... I would second the thought to wait for tiger to be released (looks like late April or early May right now as the builds are no longer prerelease and the Golden Master is expected next week from the rumour mill) as that would save you at least 70 quid (which would go a long way towards RAM).
