Personally if they do go I'd suspect they'll use IA64 chips or XScale. XScale I'd give thumbs up to cause I have always been a fan of ARM since I used an Acorn back in the late 80s - they have a lot of pitential power as both a small scale CPU and a full-size one. However if they turn to
use of x86 derivative CPUs I would put some consideration into the
fasability of abandoning the platform. I don't see there being a bright
future in Intels IA64 chips, or indeed in AMDs '64's.

The IA64 is the Itanium, isn't it? As opposed to the Intel EM64T, which is the Pentium 4 with 64-bits bolted on that's competing with the AMD stuff?

My bad, I think I meant x64 which is the generic name for the Intel and AMD variations of the platform. EM64T is, yes, Intels version for Pentium and Xeon CPUs. I also believe Itanium is on the way out (as I said IA64 does not have a bright future). Apple won't be using it hower so it matters little to Apple people. :)

* - plus, for all those who struggled with drivers in the early days of
OSX, take heart in the fact that early x64 Edition adopters are having
the same problem.

We had that problem when XP first launched for 32-bit machines, and Windows 2000, and Windows 98, and Windows 95, and for the book I bet Me (I dunno I skipped Me with good reason).
