Try something stiffer, like athin screwdriver, but if it really won't let go you need a new one. Also be careful where you aim the paperclip. In some CD drives the emergency release tab is very small and hard to hit right from the little hole. You may have missed it and be pressing on the chassis of the drive. On the hard disk front I boosted the speed of my B&W a lot by just installing a 7200rpm drive with an 8MB buffer (Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 80GB). It surprised me how much difference it made, and it's much quieter too. As far as OS goes I recommned 10.3 for older G3 machines. 10.4's revised graphics system tends to drag on older graphics cards. The CPU actually isn't as big a problem as it might appear, it's the graphics chipset that is slow in 10.4 IMHO, unless you start doing serious heavy work, or using iChat AV.
