I suggest you escalate within Apple and quote the following ...

" I have a remanufactured iBook that fits the description noted, however,
the serial number does not follow the format indicated. How can I determine
whether my iBook qualifies for the program?"

If your iBook is one of the models listed and exhibits one or more of the
symptoms above, call the appropriate Apple Contact Center for the country in
which you are located, or contact a local AASP."

Don't see why it should be covered under that rule.
