FWIW- this seems not to be true. Now that I really pay attention this external drive seems to be on- spinning- all the time and I hear it spin down as I turn the machine off- the only time it is truly off is when I "eject" that drive and it really does shut itself down then. Maybe that's what I should have been doing all along- ejecting it after booting/waking up whenever it wasn't going to be used, so effectively keeping it turned off/inactive. Perhaps it would have lived a bit longer that way. -- Joe B. -- Mac UK is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and... 123Inkjets.com <http://lowendmac.com/ad/123inkjets.html> Support Low End Mac <http://lowendmac.com/lists/support.html> Mac UK list info: <http://lowendmac.com/lists/mac-uk.shtml> --> AOL users, remove "mailto:" Send list messages to: <mailto:mac-uk@mail.maclaunch.com> To unsubscribe, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> For digest mode, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subscription questions: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Archive: <http://www.mail-archive.com/mac-uk%40mail.maclaunch.com/> iPod Accessories for Less at 1-800-iPOD.COM Fast Delivery, Low Price, Good Deal www.1800ipod.com
