Hello all,
at first I'd like to introduce myself to all of you not already
knowing me.
I'm a 40 years old German, active in different places inside the
OOo community. My main activity is the OpenOffice.org Art project
in the moment.
Be welcome :-)
After reading the German translation of Eric B's interview with
MacGeneration.fr I got notice of your work on a new iconset for OOo.
Yes, exactly : the most close of Aqua Feel is crystal set, but people
find it too Linux like, with color palette not really close to Aqua
'norm'
Shortly, everyting is different on Mac OS X, and we need more "Aqua
like" icon set.
As I don't know how far this efforts have been gone, I'd like to
point you to the work of Stella Schulze, the graphic designer at
Sun, Hamburg who designed most of the UI in OOo2.
Thank you very much :-)
She wanted to share her work with the community and started to
upload her work to the UI project:
http://ui.openoffice.org/VisualDesign/
That's already a great work : I'll contact her asap !
Especially the Galaxy iconset might be interesting for you:
http://ui.openoffice.org/VisualDesign/OOo_galaxy.html
Yes, looks pretty ! And I know this is already a lot of work
On the other hand there has just been a graphics teacher
introducing herself on [email protected], the mailing
list of the Art project.
She noticed the "un-Mac-ish" look of OOo and would like to help out
(perhaps with the help of her students).
This is very interesting.
From my side, a (french) designer proposed to help, and two students
of mine will contribute too (from march to june), for icon and other
design things.
So if you still need help in this topic, don't hesitate to reply
here (or even better: join [EMAIL PROTECTED]).
I'll try to answer on both ( I have to subscribe to art project before )
What I and others want to achieve is a more or less equal look of
OOo on all the different platforms. This is one of the central
point if we want to improve our visual identity in public.
You think we have not the same look ?
Well .. what we are doing on Mac OS x is something like that (not
completed, and some part is old uggly code):

So we'll have to define an iconset (not only for the UI, but as
application and document icons too), that can be used with minor
modifications on Mac OS X, different Linux distributions and
Windows (at least XP and Vista). And on all these platforms the
icons should look as if they had been specifically designed for
that platform.
I think this point should be discussed more, because this is
extremely important, and we need more opinions, mainly from simple
users.
Let's work together on that important task!
I appreciate your step in our direction !! Thank you very much :-)
What I propose is to organize us, with dedicated people from Mac OS x
port doing that , e.g. subscribing on art mailing list, and informing
us regularly ..etc
Regards,
Eric Bachard
