Shaun,
I have been having a shot with the SQL server:
MySQL 5.0.21-max
And have not had OpenOffice.org crash once on me. I have created a
table, and populated that table with some data. In fact it appears to
be more stable the MySQL's own MySQL query browser, which likes
crashing on me.
I used the JDBC driver after selecting MySQL in the create database
wizard.
Local mysql server installation or remote ?
Local.
Local installations work practically flawlessly. Have done for a
while now.
Unfortunately, installing mysql servers on every workstation is not
generally
an enterprise solution, and often not even feasible because of
consistency
constraints.
Therein lays the root of the matter.
If your mysql connection is remote, then I'm interested in what you
have done
to get it working, because it just won't with everything I've tried
so far on
the Intel Tiger box I've used. In fact, its so bad I've called my ODB
doc "jdbc_mysql_OOo_killer". Sure, I can get a connection, sure, I
can see
the table list, but I sure as **** (insert 4 letter expletive of
choice)
can't do anything with it, except kill OOo ;-)
As I only have access to one machine, testing remotely is a problem.
If you have a machine that is world accessible, I can try and see if
I can connect. If you want to try this, send me a private message
with info.
