It never worked with the JVM 1.4.2 either via OOo, at least not for me,
although to be fair I wasn't using Intel and Tiger at the time, but PPC
Panther.

I think you are correct. I just noticed that the JVM that NeoOffice
registers is also 1.5.0.7, in Extra->Options->Java.
If somebody is interested in a Crash Report, the Java Native Crash
Report, and the OpenOffice Report, I can send it to the interested
parties.
