I second both points. However we should bring this up with the user
experience list. If we get new icons (and I agree perfectly that this
new icon is really nice), then we want them on all platforms at the same
time (please remember that OpenOffice.org is multi-platform). New icons
for 3.0 are IMHO a very good idea, especially when they look as nice as
that one.
