Hello,
just wanted to ask if there is an issue or a thread on the
performance problems with OpenOffice.org 3.0 in connection with
PowerPC processors?
Was not aware of such problems with the PPC version. Does it occur
with m38 oonly or all milestones ?
Yes, the problem occurs with all milestones. Mainly I often have
unresponsiveness with the spinning rainbow ball. Also the startup
time is more than one minute.
I couldn't find anything though I think this is quite a severe
issue as - at the moment - the new 3.0 version is not at all
usable with PPC Macs.
Well, I tested it and so far, no problem.
The X11 solution with 2.x versions makes one feel that it is
working with double speed compared to the 3.0 version.
Hmm... yes, X11 version is faster, but Aqua is acceptable. What
machine do you use ? (got a powerbook 1,25GHz + lot of RAM)
The same. :-) But I only have 1 GB RAM (because of a defective
LogicBoard RAM slot - which unfortunetaly many Powerbook owners have
- I can't add another 1 GB of RAM) . You probably have 2 GB. My HDD
has 30 GB free and when I tested the current builds I always dragged
them into the Applications folder and didn't run them from the image
file.
Once I'll find some time, I'll build the PowerPC version (I got
PowerPC machine) , and I'll tell you whether I got the same issue.
Great, thanks a lot!
Best regards
Helge
