I did a universal build using the instructions in the macfuse faq
(thanks, Amit) and threw that binary onto my G4 running leopard.  I
got the bad superblock error message followed by a bus error, too.
The same binary works on my intel.  Genuine debugging is in order, but
I'd bet endianness is the culprit.
