I was having a similar problem getting MacFUSE 2 to install. It always failed because it couldn't run the postupgrade script. I had recently upgraded from Tiger to Leopard. One of the upgrades left an orphaned "fusefs.fs" alias. I deleted that and the install completed successfully.
