Well I'm confused then. I've had 2 kernel panics since installing
Snow Leopard over 10.5.8 with MacFuse 2.0.3 installed. I installed
this unofficial beta 2.17 and had a kernel panic soon afterwards. I
don't even know if it's related, in fact it's probably not -- my guess
is its USB related but I don't know.

Over at the Cocoatech forum there is this thread about a kernel panic
when copying a large file with Path Finder (while MacFuse 2.1.5 is
installed).

http://forum.cocoatech.com/showthread.php?t=5485

There the devs of Path Finder claim:

"MacFUSE is known to cause kernel panics on Snow Leopard. I thought
that the newest beta had fixed the issue, but perhaps not."

So what's the scoop?

I'm not booted into 64 bit mode -- but this is a 64 bit capable
MacPro. Frankly the whole 32/64 bit thing is a bit of a fiasco in my
opinion for end users, and I'm no novice.
