MacFUSE would indeed have to implement a full user mode file system
driver to make HFS Standard writable, just as with NTFS. This
shouldn't be too difficult since there are already open sourced read
only HFS Standard kernel modules for Linux. (In other words, the
format is documented.) However, writing MacFUSE drivers is beyond my
abilities and this is something that isn't likely to ever gain a lot
of momentum in the MacFUSE community. (To put it lightly.) Those guys
are simply interested in other things.

A pity too because I really want this myself.
