It might just be a for-some-reason-bad install, and trying again will 
take care of it.
Also try the "back-up current user settings and do a clean install" 
option.

One troubleshooting technique I have found that works wonders on 
troublesome things is to pull the ethernet cable during installs, or 
updates. OS-X likes to connect to LANs and WANs whenever possible, but 
doing so can cause odd things to happen. Once you are finished, plug 
the cable back in.

It it still won't work, you might try the following: XPostFacto which 
is a OS-9 control panel / app that lets you intall OS-X on the older 
unsupported systems. It has beern repeorted to install it on 
troublesome Macs that should install from the CDs, but don't.
