I used FWB's Hard Disk Toolkit for years. I don't remember that it could
change the size of partitions dynamically, but I don't doubt that it could.

What I do remember is the constant cost of updates needed to keep the HDT
drivers up to date with every Mac OS update. And the fact that if you ever
want to get off the merry-go-round, Apple's Drive Setup will not touch a
disk that has been formatted with a third party utility.

I got off the HDT merry-go-round by buying a new hard drive, mainly because
it was bigger, but also so I could format it with Drive Setup. Then I copied
everything over to the new drive and tossed the old HDT-formatted hard
drive.
