Another member who needs help. Situation: Ran out of USB slots on Mac G5, System 10.3.9. Decided that my HP photosmart 7550 printer and my HP scanjet 4570c would alternately use the same front USB slot, as I usually print with a Brothers HL 5040.
Problem: I had switched the printer and scanner before without any problems, and also used the slot to load photos from a digital camera, but today, I unhooked the printer and installed the scanner, and I can not get the computer to recognize the scanner. A message appear when I try to scan, saying the computer can not find he scanner. I took out the HP factory software disk and installed the program again, still no recognition. What is my problem? The HP 7550 printer has always been flakey, but I have never had problems with the scanner before. Any ideas? Neal Hammon PS: Neither the HP printer or scanner seems to work on an USB hub, so do not suggest this as a solution.
