I am so entertained reading each analysis of this situation.
I don't need CSI or Sue Grafton--I've got this listserve.
You guys are all that!

I'm seeing one of two scenarios here -

One: Glenn is subscribed to the listserv at that email address, and his
email account is sending out an autoresponder to anyone who sends an
email to the list (and hence to his mailbox), with it programmed to
respond to only the first email it receives from a given address (easy
to do in Windows Outlook). So, if you post to the list before he gets
back, you get an autoresponse. That being the case, I should get one
shortly.

Two: Somebody is getting these emails on (most likely) a Windows box,
and has a virus problem. In that case, the infected machine is
gathering up email addresses as they arrive and spitting spam to
Glenn's box with listserv members' addresses spoofed as the sender.

I'll let you know if I get one from him just after this posts, in which
case it's probably scenario #1.

Hey! I said I didn't recall having heard fro the mysterious Glenn. I
then did! Just got the message below:

I am on vacation until the 10 of April. I will not be able to read my
mail until I return. If you need to get in touch with someone you may
call Jill (502-261-9000 Ex 119)or fax to Jill (502-261-9001)
Thank You

Glenn

 Group:

Puzzle somewhat solved! Glenn is a guy who actually works with Label
Specialties, and so does Jill. I don't know if I have gotten any mail
from them myself or not... I always delete unknown stuff immediately. I
know a man who may or may not subscribe to our MacGroup list, named
Alan Bird. He's a nice man and a friend of mine. I have noticed an Alan
Bird on our Mac-list before, and wondered if it was the same fellow I
know. I also know Alan does labels and embroidery thing for companies,
etc. So I called the web site phone number and asked for Alan Bird. He
does NOT work there.

However, Glenn is one of their salesmen and he does a lot of business
with U of L, especially the Hospital. The woman I spoke with said they
don't send out Spam; she apologized. She said Glenn really is on
vacation now... she will tell him to check when he returns, and to
remove us from his list of "mailees"... that it was a mistake. U of L
is a big customer of his. She was very nice... and I believe she was
being truthful. (She didn't tell me whether Jill is cute or not.)

By the way, I did NOT give the woman our E-mail address.
