I'm not using Acrobat to make the pdf files --- I'm simply printing out of any old application, changing the layout to 2 to a page, and saving as a pdf. OK, I didn't test *all* applications, but it happens when printing from TeXShop (the application I use for making the class documents), Mail, Safari, and Preview. The permissions problem arises regardless of which printer I choose, also. The problem does *not* occur if I change the document to black and white, and it does *not* occur if I run document through one of the print filters. It seems to only happen when combining pdfs through Automator's 'combine pdf' action. I've had gimp-print installed (and dragged along) since Jaguar, because of needing it for the printers at UofL. None of the printers which have problems are using the gimp-print drivers, though. I'm runnning 10.4.6, but judging from timestamps on the files which had the bad permissions, it's been a problem since before 10.4.6.
