Dan,

You can do what you're wanting using nothing but standard script steps
within FMP, _but_ it's a real pain in the butt ... not a beginners task.
The more efficient way, by far, is to use one of the commercially available
plug-ins.  As an example, here's a url for one that's been around for a
while:

There are others.  The price of this one is $59 for a single user license.

Again, you _can_ do it within FMP's scripting language, but there are
limitations about the email program you have to use for sending and,
although I'm pretty proficient at FMP scripting, I think I probably worked
for about $2/hr when doing exactly what you're talking about for a project
of mine.
