Hi Fran,

Unplug and replug both of your usb connections to your printer. (One end at
your Mac and the other at the printer).  Next, you should just reinstall
your printer drivers.

My gut feel is that you have a usb related file that is missing or corrupt.
Instead of deducing which file(s) is (are) corrupt, reinstalling your
printer software should take care of most issues.

If you feel adept at using your extensions manager, you may want to explore
and turn on any extension that looks usb related.  It won't hurt!
