HELP! Hope this isn't too long winded!
I have a beige G3 with a 2nd hard drive installed. Serial number begins
XB808. It's an IBM 40G SCSI drive that I installed (maybe my first mistake).
The drive mounts and works and the SCSI number doesn't conflict with any of
my other devices. HOWEVER, even though it mounts, can be booted from, etc.,
it is sometimes erratic, cursor gets "squirrely" (is that a word??) and drive
doesn't seem to be able to find info for short periods, which slows me down
considerably. There are 2 plug-ins for drives on the internal cable. I have
had this drive connected to both. Same results. The people at OtherWorld
walked me through setup. They said the drive was terminated and told me
where to put jumpers for the ID. It seems if I never open the window for
that drive on screen and am only working on my original drive, there is no
slow down or erratic cursor. Am hoping some of the experts out there can
tell me what my next move should be. My system profile is as follows:
Internal ATA 0 ID=0 Hard Drive (original 4G drive)
Internal ATA 1 ID=O CD-Rom drive (apple)
SCSI Bus 0 ID=6 External LaCie CD-Rom
ID=5 External Zip
ID=3 Hard Drive (the one in question)
Thanks a bunch for all the great guidance this list provides. I read all the
posts and file many away for future use (mostly for OX 10, whenever I make
that switch) and have benefited greatly from all the answers and advice!
