A few questions:
Are your SCSI cables in good shape? No obvious cracks?
Does this happen with the external devices turned on or off, media
inserted or "just sitting there?"
OS-8 or OS-9?
Have you tried using different IDs on the drive and devices (i.e.
setting the external devices to a lower number and the drive to a higher
number, etc.)?
