Do the router thing. It'd be cheaper than two pieces of software (if  
he doesn't like the one built into OS X) and has a lot more features.

It's a lot of work to configure, though. Here's how.

Step one: Plug it into the modem.
Step three: Plug the computer into it.
Step three: There is no step three!  ::-)

Well, alright, you have to turn it on, too. And set your computer to  
get its numbers through DNS (Automatically).

But that's it, unless you want to get fancy.

Wireless routers are so cheap these days that you could get one now  
and then when you get your 'Book (or even another desktop at the  
other end of the house) you'll be ready to go.
