Rex, at least that makes sense in a way and gives some comfort to us 
and perhaps a reason . And when there is a reason one can accept a 
certain inconvenience. I had been thinking about that chat based 
possibility, not so much as a replacement for e-mail , but as a means 
to get handsfree communication with tech support when you  speak on the 
phone and need both of your hands to find these ever entangled cords, 
buttons etc. I would even be willing to buy one of those cameras to see 
the person I would be actually chatting to- even with a distorted 
image.
