Rumours suggest the 2 years it took to get a G4 in a laptop are likely to be repeated. Then again, other rumours have suggested that as IBM have the G5 happily working in blade servers or 1u's now, that it's only a minor voltage issue to get it in a laptop.
18 months til the next powerbook release seems to make sense. Apple's new laptops show that they won't have anything coming out hard on its heels, while I think the price cut is designed to lure those of us who are waiting for the G5's into spending. There was a wild rumour that a dual-G4 laptop would see the light of day, but I think that one's been kicked out of town for being far too fantastical. I'm going to wait. My titanium is a bit slow and clunky, but with a new battery [macsales.com, longer life replacement batteries] it's back in business and I'm discovering Keynote.
