It's a function of what you're asking the box to do. I jump between my 
wife's iBook/G3/700 and my Powerbook/G4/1G quite often. For ordinary 
things, such as browsing, e-mail and word processing, I really don't 
notice much difference because the machines are waiting for me or the 
network most of the time. I do notice a difference in things like 
computing transitions between clips in iMovie and graphics in programs 
like Mathematica and Canvas.

The most bothersome difference between the two machines is that the 
iBook has much better wireless range. This is probably because the 
aluminum case on the PowerBook is a better shield than the plastic case 
on the iBook. It also matters which way the PowerBook is facing, when 
at the edges of its range.
