Hmm, Stuffit Expander should recognize the hqx extension and expand the 
file back to full size.

There are several things that you might try:

1) Check your preference settings for StuffIt. The box for "Expand 
encoded files" should be checked -- this is the option that allows you 
to expand the BinHex compressed files (hqx).

2) Get a fresh copy of Stufft (download the standard version from the 
web-site)

3) Wait for the updates to appear as Software Updates option.
