was messing with it. Perhaps it is just the break-in period. Perhaps I'm
just over-reacting to tha problem....nothing's melted yet. ;)

hooked to the modem on the jack specified by the manual. I've of couse got
the power hooked up and it is connected to the computer via the printer
port (I just figured out recently that that little plastic piece just pops
right out of the modem port) ;) I have just romoved totally the
Geoport/Express modem that was in the comm slot. I finally figured out the
other thing I had only has one jack, is PCI and looks like it is some sort
of network card or ethernet card something......the jack is a different
size and I was mistaken there is only one not two jacks, there are four
LEDS on it labeled PWR, RX, LNK and TX. That must have been what I took out
before thinking it was the Geoport. Lets see, I checked some control panels
that I really hate fiddling with. Apple talk 2.7.4 is off but gave me an
odd message I don't ever remember seeing before: "Ethernet is no longer
available. Printer port has been selected instead. The Modem control panel
of course is set to the printer port, it's set not to ignore dial tone
(I've tried this option, doesn't work)The stats from this panel are Open
Transport 2.7.4 and remote and remote access 4.0 . My TCP/IP control
panel(Earthlink) panel - I hate messing with this because I have no idea
what any of this does. it says configure: "using PPP server" is chosen all
the fields are blank on this one. I've tried reinstallin everything from
its respective CD: Earthlink and modem driver. I just can't get anything to
work! One light is always on on the modem. I haven't messed with the
jumpers, I hope (insomnia dulls the memory). Another light comes on when
the modem initializes through remote access. Pain in the butt. It's driving
me crazy.I just bought a can of that condensed air and have been cleaning
everything just to make sure I don't fall victim to the same sort of
problem I had with the Sonnet Card. ;)

the money I've spent upgrading I could have got an X capable (although
technically I could run X on this one....technically) machine. I'm half
prepared for those troubles though. I have some X CDs for a powerbook G4
and a OS X Bible put away for the day when I am able to afford the actual
machine. By the time that happens, they'll be long outdated though. Perhaps
it's time they met Ebay or the swap list. Ah well they feed my dreams!

> Yep, I got that printer to work, but it still irritates me that I have so
much trouble finding compatible items in retail outlets. The USB PCI card
is from Comp USA. I asked the salesman if they had a mac compatible model
and he flatly said "no" and made for another customer. I had to check the
specifications model by model and lo and behold they did have one!! I would
have like to have kicked the guy in the shins on the way out the door if I
weren't such a nice girl. ;) I'm working on the local family owned computer
shop, trying to get them to be more receptive to Mac items. I hate always
having to defend my preference, but I think I've changed a couple of minds
with my limited knowledge of Macs. Anyway, thanks a million!
