Have you tried to use one of the network activity monitors to see if
someone is trying to "dial" in?
A couple(okay more than a couple) of things that can stop that:
1) upgrade to the "snow" version -- it uses 128 bit encryption.
2) move the base station so that it is not so close to your neighbors or
to the street, 150' is a long ways.
3) Combo of close the network, use passwords, wep, mac address, change
the channel 2, 4 or more up or down from what you now have it set to,
etc. all at once.
4) Note: Anyone with the right kind of receiver can determine that you
have an operating Base Station as it transmits a radio signal, so
someone might try to tap into it to access your internet connection or
worse, into your computers, but keeping it closed will prevent that from
happening, so really 4) is get used to folks trying to get in.
5) just to be safe, put the firewalls in place on the individual
computers and lock the ports down that you don't want open!!!!!!!
6) Unplug the Base Station when you are gone.
7) Check into HenWen, a gui for SNORT, a network intrusion detection
system
