It seems you skipped a step in the upgrade path. Normally I would think this should not a problem, but your upgrade path may have been what caused it.
This is where Apple fixed the sleep/network loss in OS-X (but you needed to have 10.1.5 installed before doing this step: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106922 This covers some of the obscure, yet still remaining sleep problems: (Basically the answer is to upgrade from 10.2 to 10.2.1) http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107036 The upgrade you did, should have included the fix, but maybe it got left out.
