This does sound like a bad battery.  Battery can develop memory, where  
they do/will not hold a charge.  You can sometimes kick them over.  ie  
make them loss their memory.  I have done it with other devices but,  
never with a laptop.  The way you have to do it is to let the battery  
run all the way down then recharge it.  You have to do this a couple of  
times.  I think that the newer batteries used in laptops this kind of  
issues should not happen.
