Two levels of s/w . . . Quicktime, which provides the standard QT functionality with the update, and "Quicktime Pro" for advanced QT stuff. The "Pro" requires the key purchase, at your option, unfortunately, every time. If you've previously bought and use the Pro functionality, and wish to continue doing so, then you'll want/need the key for every update, because updating will disable your previous Pro key enabling. Catch, and Double Catch.
