I'm not sure if I have read all the messages in this thread, but I believe most are reading the upgrade instructions incorrectly. If you own a QT pro key for version 6, you will need to buy another one if you upgrade to version 7. However; They do not charge for the point upgrades such as 7.1. That is, if you bought a key for version 7.0, then when you upgrade to 7.1 you will still be able to use the pro features.
