No, you have to have a land line for DSL service, I switched about 6  
months ago for some of the same reasons you mentioned. You can get  
the 6Mb service from bellsouth for just a bit more than the regular  
service from Insight that I think is rated around 4Mb, but its all  
relative, because in the fine print of the Bellsouth DSL info, they  
state that they do not guaranty any specific speed.
My service has been pretty good most of the time, and has been mostly  
reliable. I am using a Airport base station, so I know that will  
affect speed as well.
You need to check with the Bellsouth web site, Fastaccess.com to see  
if your home qualifies for the service.
