With all the many problems of Insight I connected a DSL line and
began running a second network in my home, I still have some of the
computers on Insight's Cable, then I have one dedicated to SBC's (I
live in Indiana) DSL. I am very happy with it, the speed seems about
the same as DSL, I have not done a real test, but opening URL's is
very close.

It hasn't been down since being installed for about a month, but
prior to Insight's famous May, it had been down very little as well.
I have found their Mac support to be O.K., I just have to keep asking
for a Mac person if we hit a wall.

I can't answer your last question about getting DSL without a
landline, this will have to be addressed by others, or the phone
company.
