The search option is available only with the "new" 5G iPods (5.5G?).
This too bothered me because 1) it's a software update, and the rest  
of the (software) functions were available in the update for previous  
5G owners and 2) we just bought two 5G iPods in the last month or so.

hopefully it will be like the "shuffle in the main list" function  
that was in the 4Gs but not avaible to the 3G owners.
It was eventually released in an update.
